Iron Castings
Australia – Iron Foundry Services
A&G Price stands out as a top-notch Iron Casting Expert Australia-wide, dedicated to delivering high-quality, custom-engineered iron components for heavy industries. Our deep knowledge in iron and alloy casting caters to the demanding needs of sectors like mining, rail, energy, and defence.
With a rich history in industrial engineering, we offer comprehensive solutions — from technical design and metallurgy to precision casting and post-processing — all customised to meet Australian standards and project specifications. Our foundry team brings that same standard to every job, whether it's a single prototype or a full production run.

What Is Iron Casting?
Iron casting is a manufacturing process where molten iron is poured into a mould shaped to your exact specifications, then left to cool and solidify into a finished component. Once it's cooled, cleaned, and finished, you're left with a part that's dense, strong, and able to absorb vibration and wear in a way few other materials can match.
It's the process behind everything from locomotive bogies and mining equipment housings to industrial valves, brackets, and structural components — the kind of parts that need to perform for decades, not just pass a warranty check.

Why Choose A&G Price for Iron Casting in Australia
Our foundry runs on Whiting Arc and Inductotherm induction furnaces, giving us a melt capacity of up to 3,300kg of iron in a single pour — the largest capacity of any material we work with. That means we can take on substantial castings without needing to split a job across multiple runs.
Every job starts with your specifications — a drawing, a sample, or a rough sketch of what you need. Our Foundry Methods engineers convert that into a 3D model, optimise it for castability, and run it through casting simulation software before a single mould is made. That step alone saves time, money, and avoids the kind of costly trial-and-error that other foundries pass on to you.
Our metallurgists don't just melt and pour. They refine metal compositions to suit the specific demands of your application, run lab testing on every batch, and maintain full traceability from raw material to finished part. If you need material certification for compliance or quality assurance, we can provide it.
Patterns are hand-crafted in our Pattern Shop from wood, plastic, or styrene foam, then used to create the sand moulds your castings are formed in. It's still a hands-on trade, and we employ people who've spent years getting good at it.
Once a casting is cooled, cleaned, and shot-blasted, it's heat-treated and tested — and if it needs further machining, it goes straight into our in-house Machine Shop rather than being shipped out to a third party. That keeps your project moving and your lead times shorter.
Our Iron Casting Process
-
Specification & Design — We start with your drawings, samples, or requirements. Our engineers convert these into 3D models optimised for castability.
-
Simulation— Casting simulation software helps us refine the approach before any metal is melted, reducing the risk of defects or costly reworks.
-
Pattern Making — Skilled tradespeople in our Pattern Shop build the patterns used to form your moulds.
-
Moulding — Patterns are used to create hard sand moulds on our moulding floor.
-
Melting & Pouring — Iron is melted in our high-capacity furnaces and poured into the prepared moulds.
-
Cooling & Fettling — Castings cool, then are cleaned and shot-blasted to reveal the semi-finished component.
-
Heat Treatment & Testing — Castings undergo heat treatment to relieve internal stresses, followed by quality testing.
-
Machining or Dispatch — Finished castings are either dispatched or sent to our in-house Machine Shop for further processing.
